In this image the reflected colors of the morning sun off the mountains make the stream more interesting, but the stream is still the main subject.
Below, the stream is once again the center of attraction, but this time the coloration of the water becomes the message, slightly more abstract in nature than the Merced River photo.

At the right, the reflection of Half Dome at Yosemite gives us a different way of looking at the subject. We could have just as easily shot straight at Half Dome (which I did), but I am always looking for a different angle. I have abstracted the image of the mountain by isolating on the reflection.
The repetitious trees reflected in the lake add to the message of the interesting pattern. This design element becomes the subject matter as abstracted from the scene of pine trees growing at the edge of the lake.
